Rock and River are based on an 180 acre farm in Mawdesley, near Ormskirk

Rock and River are Outdoor Pursuits specialists. We have been running adventurous outdoor activities since 1996. Our main site is at Cliff's Farm Activity Centre on a 180 acre farm in Mawdesley, near Ormskirk. We also have a second, smaller site at Ashworth Valley, Rochdale. We run outdoor activities for schools, colleges, youth and corporate groups and scouts and guides. All our staff are extremely passionate about the great outdoors and are completely dedicated to ensuring you have the most exhilarating and rewarding time imaginable. All instructors at Rock and River are fully qualified and experienced. We also ensure that they all undergo an in-house training assessment in all the activities they lead. We take pride in offering a friendly, flexible service and tailor all our programmes to meet the specific needs of each and every group.

We are open to the public throughout the summer months offering various packages. Families can book in with us (minimum of 4 people) and experience some great outdoor activities. For a short period why not group together with friends and family and take advantage of our BBQ Special Offer (minimum booking of 12 people) - enjoy 2 hours of adventurous outdoor activities and a BBQ too! Get involved in our Canoe club too - every Wednesday throughout the summer on our purpose-built lake.

Rock and River Outdoor Pursuits are Adventure Activities Licencing Authority (AALA) certified. We are a Lancashire County Council Registered Centre and have also gained the Learning Outside the Classroom (LOTC) Quality Badge.

  • ROCK & RIVER CAFE

    Situated within our main building we have a small cafe that serves light snacks and refreshments and provides full catering options for residential groups. Speak directly to our chef and he will design a menu ideally suited to the dietary requirements of your group. If you wish to lower the costs of your catering feel free to discuss the option of having one main dish, i.e curry, bolognese, stew. Our chef is also more than happy to provide a barbeque or buffet.

    Stay Over in Our Rustic Barn Conversion

    With Self Catering Kitchen-Diner and Classroom, Games Room, Wet Room, Drying Room, Male & Female Toilet and Shower Blocks

    Our bunkhouse was once the farm’s dairy barn and has been converted to provide basic, but cosy and comfortable accommodation for up to 46. In converting the barn we have exposed the wooden beams and brick walls giving it lots of rustic charm. It's completely self contained within our centre, and you'll have it all to yourselves with private access to the above.
