CANOE & KAYAK COURSES
Rock and River run the new and updated BCU (British Canoe Union) Paddlepower scheme. This is an entry level course and whilst there are no age limits it has been designed to be child friendly, best suited to paddlers aged 14 years or under.
A three hour course giving you the basic skills to manoeuvre and feel at ease in your kayak or canoe. A 'Start' certificate is awarded upon completion of this course. This award is designed to provide a framework for a paddler's first session and provide encouragement to progress to Paddlepower Passport.
An eight hour course building on the skills and knowledge acquired through the Paddlepower Start award. Paddlepower Passport comprises four progressive levels that guide the new paddler from the initial 'Start' session through 24 competencies, skills and knowledge.
BCU STAR AWARDS
As with the Paddlepower Awards there is no age limit to these courses, however the BCU Star Awards best suit most paddlers aged 16 years and above. Rock and River run the first three BCU Star awards.
BCU ONE STAR
Following the BCU syllabus this is a one day course introducing the participants to the kayak or open canoe, allowing them to develop basic control and understanding of the sport.
BCU TWO STAR
Bringing you up to the level of a competent flat water paddler, the two star expands knowledge and assesses both kayak and open canoe skills.
BCU THREE STAR
The three star award is discipline specific and makes the step from flat to moving water. For more information on what the BCU Awards entail you can access their website at www.bcu.org.uk If you have any questions regarding our skills courses we'd be happy to talk through them with you, so please contact us.
WHITE WATER KAYAK INTRODUCTION
This is our own introduction for paddlers to white water kayaking. For those who are paddling for personal enjoyment and either want a refresher or just some knowledge and skills to give them a firm background to build on.
