Rock and River Staff
Your Instructors
All of the instructors working for Rock and River are fully qualified in the activities which they instruct, and are committed to the outdoors both personally as well as professionally. They are more than willing to answer any questions you may have about the activity and give advice on further participation and learning.
Here is a breif description of the main staff.
John Wareing
Level 3 Kayak Coach, Kayak 5* trained, Open Canoe 3*, Summer ML, Winter ML, Single Pitch Award
John is the founder and General Manager of Rock and River, he has dedicated the last 11 years to achieving the current growth and success of the business. Whilst responding to the need of Outdoor provision within the Northwest, John has also been able to maintain an active Climbing and Paddling career also (the very reason he got into the industry).
During his spare time, John is at home paddling down a good river as much as climbing at a sunny crag or slogging up a long cold mountain route, in the past he has been fortunate enough to visit various European destinations in search of steep rock and more challenging rivers. Although now a married man with a wife, child, dog and business, John can still be found travelling the country in his Camper in search of a new adventure!

Barry Roberts
Level 3 Kayak Coach Trained, Kayak 5* trained, Open Canoe 3*, Summer ML, Single Pitch Award
Barry is one of Four Managers at Rock and River and has dedicated the last 6 years to the company whilst pursuing an active interest in a range of outdoor pursuits. Along with a dedication towards the company, Barry is an active Paddler and Climber too..
On days off, Barry is often found travelling the country in search of water or a good playspot. When there's no water to be found, Barry is just as happy climbing routes at a sun drenched crag or enduring a long day ascending mountain routes or simply walking in various locations throughout the country.

Stephen Pool
Level 2 Kayak Coach, 3 Star kayak/opens, SPA, Summer ML.
Steve joined Rock and River in 2000 bringing along a host of skills and his hands on approach to centre management. He can be found maintaining or building activity bases and making sure everything runs smoothly. Steve recenlty became a proud dad and enjoys mountain walking, river running and the occasional swim!

Rick Crosby
Level 2 Kayak Coach, Qualified Paramedic.
Rick helps out on a part time basis. He is our main IT guy and the creator of this web site and all our IT Infrastructure. He is also works as a State Registered Paramedic for North West Ambulance Service.
His main interest is Kayaking and has over 15 years experience and includes trips to North Wales, Lake District, Scotland, Austrian Alps, Norway and Chile. He has also been fortunate enough have been white water rafting in Turkey and also the mightly Zambezi at victoria Falls Zimbabwe.
Moutaineering is a second passion. Numouros trips to North Wales, Lake District, have also been supplimented with trips to the Alps, Norway and an accent with John Waring of Aconcagua Agentinia (6,962m 22,841ft).

Dylan
Head of Administration. Most intelligent staff member.
Dylan is John's border collie. You will probably come accross him during your stay. He is a very capable swimmer, and beats some people in a kayak race!
