Activities

Canoeing at Rock & RiverAt Rock and River you can choose from over 15 different activity sessions to customise your very own special Outdoor Activity Day. All of these activities are situated here on our 180 acre site. We have activities for all age groups and abilities. We are able to design your visit however you like. So if you and your group want to come along and just have some fun then Rock and River can accommodate this. If however, you want your day to have a team-building or competitive element to it, then we would love to arrange this for you too.

You can choose from either land-based activities or water-based activities. Each activity has a different type and degree of challenge. We adopt a ‘challenge by choice’ approach at Rock and River and we will never force you to do anything you don’t want to do. What we do ask, is that you at least have a go at stepping outside of your ‘comfort zone’ whilst you are with us. Our instructors, who are fully qualified and very experienced, will do their best to make you feel as comfortable as possible and will always encourage you positively.

We also run activities within our Woodland Learning sessions that are designed to stimulate curiosity and imagination, inspire creativity, and educate you, as well as increase your awareness of the natural environment.

We believe that engaging in outdoor activities benefits you in so many ways. Take a look below at just some of the benefits a visit to Rock and River could provide! So if you would like to reap some of the following rewards contact us on 01704 822622 or e-mail us at bookings@rockandriver.co.uk

On-Site Activities

  • Come and have a go at abseiling on our brand new Outdoor Climbing Tower. We have built a 13m (42ft) high tower with a dedicated abseiling wall. The session will start with your instructor fitting and checking your harnesses. Then it’s time to climb up the inside of our tower, whilst attached to a safety rope of course; and after a short, precise explanation from your instructor you are ready to lean backwards over the edge and abseil down to earth!

  • A delicate balancing act for you and your friends. All aboard is a classic exercise in trust and is designed to encourage teamwork and communication. Climb the 13m (42ft) pole to access a small platform, balance yourself precariously at the top and then make room for a further 3 people! One by one your friends now join you on the platform, which is barely big enough for one person, Now that you’re all standing on the top, 13m in the air, if you have the nerve, put the ultimate trust in your friends; hold each other’s hands and lean back!

  • Archery

All our archery sessions start with an introduction to the equipment you will be using. Our expert staff will give you a demonstration on how to use the equipment and then it’s over to you. We’ll even give you 3 practice arrows before you start scoring! Archery is a fantastic activity and is suitable for all ages.

  • High Ropes - Balance Beam

The ultimate balancing act! An individual challenge, Balance Beam comprises two parallel beams fixed across two vertical poles. One beam is approximately 4m (13ft) off the floor whilst the other beam is a more daring 10m (33ft). Your challenge is to climb up to the first beam and then using co-ordination and balance walk across this beam to the other side. Do you have what it takes to go to the next level? If so, climb even higher to the second beam and once again, balancing delicately walk across to the other side. A personal challenge that requires nerves of steel!
