Woodland Tales

There is a wealth of literature for young children that is based in the woodland. The ‘wild woods’ conjure up images of mystery and magic that has been used by storytellers throughout history. From the favourite traditional stories such as Little Red Riding Hood and Snow White to more modern tales such as The Bear Hunt and The Hobbit, the woods provide inspiration and food for the imagination. The woodland setting at Cliffs Farm can make these tales come to life.

A woodland tales session is based on a book. The children begin by exploring the woodland and getting a sense of the place. They may be able to find pictures of characters in the story or clues to help them identify with the plot. The book is read and the children can dress up and act out parts of the story. They can make porridge like the 3 bears, make little beds for the 7 dwarfs, or create maps for the journey of the hobbits. The group comes together to share their ideas and create their own version of the story. Other imaginative themes such as teddy bears picnics and Halloween parties can be arranged.
